HIU Community Honors Dr. Peace Amadi with Faculty Excellence Award

Each year the Rose B. and Edgar B. McReynolds Faculty Excellence Award is presented to a faculty member that embodies teaching and learning excellence, as identified by the HIU community. This year, the honor was bestowed on Dr. Peace Amadi, an Associate Professor of Psychology and Counseling.

Among the submissions to nominate Dr. Amadi for this recognition, one student wrote, “Her class has challenged me to be a better person, servant leader and student. She takes time to get to know her students, and genuinely cares for each of them, inside and outside of class.”

The award was presented to Dr. Amadi by Dr. Paul Alexander, HIU’s Vice President for Academic Affairs, during the spring Honors Convocation chapel. Upon the announcement, Dr. Amadi received a standing ovation from her colleagues. Overcome with emotion and nearly speechless, she simply said “I truly love my job. Thank you. Thank you!”

In addition to her teaching role at HIU, Dr. Amadi co-founded and co-directs The Ruby Project, a non-profit organization that reaches out to girls, ages 12-20, who have experienced abuse and trauma. Dr. Amadi also serves her home church as worship director.
